Privacy policy
Effective 1 November 2026
This policy covers the Archive iPhone app and this website. Both are published by Metron-Apps.eu, part of Metron Labs, in the Netherlands ("we").
The short version
Archive connects to a document archive server that you or someone you know runs. Your documents and account stay on that server and on your iPhone. They are never sent to us. The app has no analytics, advertising or tracking, and contains no third-party code that collects data.
Who holds your data
The app does nothing without a server. Whoever runs the server you sign in to, such as you, a family member or an employer, decides what happens to the data on it. Under the GDPR that person or organisation is the controller of that data, not us. We can't see, reach or recover anything on it. For questions about your account or documents, or to have them changed or deleted, contact the administrator of your server.
What the app sends to your server
The app connects only to the server address you enter. It sends:
- Sign-in details: your username, password and authenticator code.
- Documents: the scans, photos and files you choose to add, with their text, title, date and other details.
- What you write: notes and reminders, and who they are for.
- A push token: if you allow notifications, an identifier Apple issues so that your server can reach this device.
The server also keeps a history of changes to documents, and records failed sign-ins, including the network address they came from, to block password guessing. If a document arrives without readable text, the server may recognise the text itself.
What stays on your iPhone
- Camera: used only when you scan a document. Scans are processed on the iPhone.
- Photos and Files: the app receives only the items you pick.
- Text recognition: runs on the iPhone, using Apple's on-device frameworks.
- Face ID: the app only receives the result from iOS, and never your face data.
- Stored on the device: your sign-in token in the iOS Keychain; recently opened PDFs (up to 500 MB) so they open without a network; uploads waiting to be sent; your own reminders, for local alerts; and a small summary for the widgets. Signing out removes the cached PDFs, pending uploads and local reminders.
Widgets can be seen without unlocking the iPhone. They show reminder titles only if you turn that on, and never document titles or note text.
Apple
If your server is set up for push notifications, it sends them through Apple's Push Notification service. They contain only a general text, such as that a reminder is due, and never document titles or note text. Apple handles your download of the app and any push notifications under its own privacy policy. If you agreed to share diagnostics with app developers on your iPhone, Apple may give us anonymous crash and usage statistics.
The demo server
We run a demo server, hosted in the EU by Hetzner Online GmbH, so that the app can be tried and reviewed. It holds sample documents only and is wiped every night. Please do not upload real documents to it.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or external services, and we keep no visitor logs. It runs on the same server as the demo.
What we receive
If you e-mail us, we use your message and address to reply, and delete them when they're no longer needed. Apart from that and the statistics Apple may provide, we receive nothing.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your personal data, and for it to be corrected, deleted, restricted or transferred, and you can object to its use. For data on an archive server, ask its administrator. For anything we hold, contact us. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the Netherlands, that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Children
The app is not aimed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will publish the new version here with a new date.
